“I grew up in Australia and have always had a love of movement, sport and exercise.
I began dancing at the age of 5 and continued to practice jazz ballet, for fun and fitness, every week for about 10 years. I’m so grateful for this early movement training and feel that it has contributed to my life in very positive ways. My love of sport and exercise was varied and included squash, aerobics, swimming, softball and waterskiing, and I was fortunate enough to represent my state of South Australia playing netball.
After moving to London in the early 90s my life became far more sedentary and certain postural problems began to arise in my body. Over the years I tried a number of different treatments but none of these seemed to actually fix the increasing aches and pains I had in my back, neck and shoulders.
In 2005 my life changed completely. I became severely ill and was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and active Thyroid Eye disease. I had to stop working and the following 4 years involved a great deal of time spent in hospital having surgery and treatments and simply being at home recovering. It was during this time that I discovered and fell in love with Pilates (thank you Jenny ;-). My body was incredibly weak, I could barely walk up stairs at times and my eyesight was greatly impaired,
yet I found the Pilates so enjoyable and I could really feel the improvement week-by-week.
Through this life-changing illness I learned many wonderful things. One of these was that I wanted to train as a Pilates teacher in order to share this amazing gift with others. I feel that my personal experience with illness helps me to empathise with
and therefore better help clients who are dealing with pain, illness and injury.
I continue to work on my own alignment, and to this day, Pilates remains the only thing that consistently helps me to feel pain-free, long and strong in my own body.
I truely believe that Pilates can benefit anyone and I would love the whole world to
be doing it!”
